  • A responsibility - having conceived, studied and created a patent for an Oekotex certified padding capable of enhancing all the characteristics of the silk fibre, without distorting its essence and working to increase the heat retention and breathability variables so essential for the level of comfort ;
  • A source of pride - being able to verify how third-party international organizations, created to monitor and enhance the textile supply chain, have certified the excellence of a path of continuous improvement that Cosetex/T.Silk has undertaken for many years.

What is OEKO-TEX® certification?

The International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile Ecology ( OEKO-TEX® ) is an association of 16 independent textile research institutes and testing laboratories located in Europe and Japan.

OEKO-TEX® certification, the world's leading eco-label for textiles, is synonymous with maximum product safety, a purchasing decision-making tool that, through objective certification, guarantees consumers certainty regarding the quality of textile products and their components.

What is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification ?

The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification is an independent control and certification system, with internationally harmonized verification criteria, scientifically based testing methodologies, company audits and supply chain traceability, which involves a global range of textile products: from raw materials to semi-finished products to finished products at every level of processing, including the ancillary materials used.

The current list of types, limits and requirements of the substances analyzed to achieve Oekotex certified padding cover:

  • Specific legal regulations (e.g. azo dyes, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium nickel, etc.);
  • Numerous chemical substances which, although not regulated by law and/or regulations, are, based on scientific findings, dangerous to health;
  • Updated requirements of the various annexes of the European Chemicals Regulation REACH and the ECHA Candidate List of SVHCs;
  • US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requirements for lead;
  • Numerous classes of substances that are dangerous, not only for humans but also for the environment

This system is expressed in the form of different levels or classes of certification, based on the end users to whom the product is intended and whether or not direct contact with the item occurs (younger age and greater direct contact with the skin = more stringent human/ecological requirements to be met):

  • Class I: articles for babies and children up to 3 years;
  • Class II: articles used in contact with the skin;
  • Class III: articles not used in contact with the skin;
  • Class IV: furnishing/decorative materials.

Why OEKOTEX certified padding is important

The padding represents the beating heart of any padded product but at the same time it is an element that, being hidden internally and poorly advertised and valued, is not immediately noticeable.

The quality assurance of a garment, of a product, cannot ignore its heart, its padding , also because it is able to characterize it by determining a series of distinctive and qualitative elements:

  • performance levels (warmth and breathability)
  • softness and ergonomics
  • comfort
  • flexibility in use
  • naturalness and possible releases of harmful or curative substances

Placing your body in contact for many hours a day with an Oekotex certified padding guarantees that the materials and processes that lead to its construction and manufacturing comply with the strict standards required in terms of not releasing harmful and damaging elements and defining strict control and traceability methods.

T.Silk is the best Oekotex certified padding

Silk fiber is a natural fiber that releases only nature.

From the comparison between silk and some synthetic fibres that are used for modern technical padding also in the clothing and outwear fields, it is clear that the differences between silk and artificial and synthetic fibres are very evident in terms of the possible release of substances.

Chemically, silk is "simply" a composition of two natural proteins, sericin and fibroin. Both of these proteins, with fibroin in greater percentage, are the main component of T.Silk's Oekotex-certified padding.

The amino acids (substances) that fibroin could release in contact with the human body are about 16 and are actively able to heal the body, skin, hair

Analysis tests of Oekotex T.Silk certified padding

In compliance with the strict Oekotex protocols, tests carried out on the fibres that make up T.Silk padding and on the finished product have highlighted full compliance with the imposed limits, allowing T.Silk to have the first Oekotex certified padding in 100% natural silk available.
