Silk and silk satin
The silk yarn that makes up the fabric of the silk bed sheets in silk mulberry satin is obtained starting directly from the silk cocoon which represents the raw material to create the satin fabric and silk satin for luxury linens
What kind of fabric is satin?
Let's start by clarifying what satin is not: it is not a particular type of fiber, nor a particular type of silk, nor even a synthetic fiber fabric. This information is important because there are many sites that claim to be specialized in silk that give incorrect information.
Satin is technically an armor of a specific construction of a fabric that takes on the characteristics of extreme softness, lightness and smoothness with shiny and iridescent color tones. The term satin was born long before the invention of synthetic fibers or viscose.
What does satin mean?
The term satin derives from the Latin “rasus” past participle of radere. In the past it was typical of fabrics whose pile was cut very short (shaved) in order to obtain a smooth, extremely iridescent and shiny surface.
What material is satin?
The term "raso" refers to satin itself, with a particular reference to silk satin fabric . Since the Middle Ages, Satin has in fact identified silk satin and its name is most likely due to a Chinese city from whose port the first quantities of this marvelous fabric destined for Europe departed: Quanzhou whose name in Arabic was Zayton. In the silk version satin is widely used for luxury silk bed linen
How satin is obtained
The satin used for silk satin sheets is a typical fabric construction with some peculiar characteristics:
- The binding points are distributed in limited numbers and are almost imperceptible. Their order is regular although not necessarily consecutive.
- The fewer the binding points, the greater the number of wefts must be for the fabric to be stable.
- It has a shiny appearance (to obtain a cotton satin, calendering is carried out to achieve the shiny appearance)
- There are different satin weaves depending on the number of times the warp thread passes in front of the weft thread (5/6 satin weave - 7 queen satin - 8 marvellous satin - 9 duchess or Chinese satin)
- It has a very regular, smooth and homogeneous flat surface.
- It has a shiny obverse (typical of silk satin) and a more opaque reverse.
What is silk satin

The material, the fiber, typical for the construction of satin is silk fiber. The combination of the satin construction with the characteristics of continuous silk threads allows to enhance the softness and lightness of a natural microfiber capable of adapting optimally to the morphology of the body and endowed, among natural fibers, with an unparalleled fineness.
The satin weave of the silk bed sheets also allows to enhance the typical shine of the silk fibre.
The use of mulberry silk, which from the point of view of its structure is a helical fibre, manages to combine extreme light with iridescent characteristics of unrivalled brilliance, ideal for silk sheets for elegant double bedrooms
